Have you been hearing about Meditation all around the internet? Are you curious what all the hype is about? Would you like to know what you need to get started?
If you’re interested in meditation, but don’t have a clue where to start, take a deep breath. I’ve been practicing meditation for almost 15 years now, and it’s really very easy. It’s the best stress reliever known to man.
Here are the things you need to know:
#1. It’s not complicated!
It’s actually one of the most simple things you can do. You don’t need to sit with your knees folded. I couldn’t do that for more than two minutes myself. You don’t need to know anything about Chakras, Buddhism, or Hinduism. The concept may have come from eastern cultures, but the practice its self has nothing to do with any religion.
The most important element is that you are comfortable.
#2. It’s all about getting quiet & still
- Sit in whatever position feels best to you. This could be in a chair or on a sofa with your feet flat on the floor. It could even be sitting up on a bed (which is my preferred method), with a pile of comfy pillows behind your back.
- Relax!! Start at the tip of your toes, and work your way up to the very top of your head, feeling each muscle relax as you work your way up.
- Try to empty your mind. This will be challenging at first, but with time it’s easy to master. Most teachers suggest to concentrate only on your breathing. I find soothing music extremely helpful. Here are a couple of meditation music channels with lots of choices.
- Start slow. Try just 10-15 minutes at a time. You’ll know you’ve been successful when you eagerly look forward to your next meditation.
#3. The only objective is to find true, soothing peace.
The main reason to do any meditation is to find peace within your being. There can be many other agendas or directions you take this soul comforting practice. But as you learn, let your primary function be just a few minutes of well deserved peace to ease your body and mind. This is self-care and self-love at its finest!
#4. It can also be a way to connect with: Source, Higher Self, God
(whatever that means for you)
As you become more experienced in meditation, it can become a way to feel connected to all that is good. For me that’s the Universe & Quantum Field. For you that could be the Creator or whatever spiritual connection is most important for you. Labels aren’t important here. It’s about connecting with the goodness that runs through each of us. All we have to do is reach for it.
#5. It can also be the gateway to manifesting
My experience has been that connecting to the Universe is how I have Co~Created amazing experiences in my life. I’ve been astounded every time I’ve been able to manifest wonderful things into existence, from Saving Lei Lani, to finding the apartment of my dreams, to finding the Love of my Life.
So you see, there’s nothing complicated about Meditation. It’s about getting still and connecting to the wonderful life force that exists within you.
